Once upon a time there was a little kitten called Charlie. He was a very naughty kitten and was always getting into trouble. No matter what he did he always seemed to end up in trouble. One day he decided to go out for an early morning patrol around his garden. He climbed trees and looked under hedges; he tried to get a fish out of the pond but didn’t succeed.
Soon he saw the sun coming, up it was getting light; he knew it was time to go home for breakfast. He left his patrol and set off home. As he went in through the flap his brother Nicky was sitting in the kitchen. They rubbed noses and Charlie wandered towards the food bar to see what was for breakfast.
Nicky stopped him, “Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear,” he said, “You have lost one of your stripes.” Charlie sat down and curled round to examine his fur. Nicky was right. Where there should have been a stripe was just plain fur.
A feeling of panic came over him. Where could it be? It must have dropped off: but where? He started to sob but Nicky came over to him and licked his ear.
“Don’t worry Charlie,” he said, “I will help you find it,” and with that the two cats set off to search the garden. They looked under flower pots, round the pond, searching everywhere that Charlie had been: but they couldn’t find it. What were they to do?
Nicky said, “I tell you what; let’s go and have breakfast and then we will search again. We will search every inch until we find it.”
As they got back to the flap Nicky noticed something on the ground. It was Charlie’s missing stripe. It must have got rubbed off as he went through the flap. Charlie was so happy he mewed with joy as Nicky carefully put the stripe back where it belonged.
“Thank you, Nicky.” He said.
“That’s alright Charlie, but you make sure you take more care of your stripes.”
